The “Iron Cowboy” is Set to Break a New World Record with 50/50/50 Challenge Finale Ending at Electric Park

Two-time world record holding triathlete, James Lawrence, is slated to break a new world record as he races across his 50th finish line in 50 days in Lehi, Utah on Saturday, July 25

Lehi, UT (July 20, 2015) – Two-time world record holder, James Lawrence — also known as the “Iron Cowboy” – has been racing across the U.S. to set a new standard in endurance racing and to raise awareness about the importance of fighting childhood obesity in the U.S. On July 25, the triathlete will cross his final finish line at Electric Park at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Utah and will have completed 50 full Ironman triathlon courses in 50 days across all 50 states.

Lawrence’s journey started on June 6, 2015, when he completed his first full triathlon, including a 2.4-mile swim,

112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile marathon run in Kauai, HI before taking on triathlon courses in the rest of the United States each day thereafter. To support his efforts, youth sports franchise, Amazing Athletes, and its owners across the nation have been joining him by racing alongside him and cheering him on from the sidelines to help spread the message about the importance of establishing a lifestyle of healthy habits and to raise awareness about childhood obesity in the U.S. today.

Lawrence currently holds two world records in 70.3 and 140.6 triathlon racing. In 2012, Lawrence dominated the

2012 World Record, completing 30 races in 11 countries and smashing the previous World Record by 10 races, winning two titles and placing second in five others. This summer, the Iron Cowboy decided to push his limits even further by attempting to complete 50 Ironman courses in 50 consecutive days throughout all 50 states in his 50-50-50 challenge.

As the father of five young elementary school children, Lawrence said he was inspired to embark on this 50-50-50 challenge is to raise awareness about childhood obesity, motivate others to make healthy lifestyle choices, and set the best example he can for his kids.

“It’s for my children. Everything I do, I do for them. I try to set examples for them. I try to set big goals and accomplish them,” he said. “I want to be around for them as long as I can, and this is my motivation to get up and do those things.”

In addition to showcasing the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to his own kids, he also hopes to spread the message to children and families everywhere about the importance of making lifestyle changes that emphasize fitness, activity, and healthy habits as a family.

“There is a massive epidemic in this country. We’re obese, and it’s a problem. We need to make some serious changes in our lives,” he said. “We need to change the way we eat, we need to change our activity levels, and we need to change our lifestyles.”

He encouraged individuals and corporations to join him in his efforts by swimming a lap, biking a mile or running awhile with him as he raced across the states. Amazing Athletes, a national children’s sports enrichment franchise, answered the call. Amazing Athletes owners ran, biked, swam and supported him throughout his journey across the U.S., and will be there to join him again as he crosses his 50th and final finish line in Lehi on July 25.

Runners, bikers, walkers, swimmer and fans alike are encouraged to join Lawrence and Amazing Athletes – whether just for a mile, 10 miles or 100 – in support of their aligned missions to promote healthy habits in young children and help put an end to childhood obesity once and for all.
