Amazing Athletes Participates in the Iron Cowboy’s 50-50-50 Challenge to Promote Kids Health

Preschool sports franchise, Amazing Athletes, will join two-time world record holding triathlete, James Lawrence, in cities across the U.S. to raise awareness about childhood obesity.

Two-time world record holder, James Lawrence — also known as the “Iron Cowboy” — is gearing up to set a new standard in endurance racing by completing 50 full Ironman triathlon courses in 50 days across all 50 states starting on June 6, 2015. To support his efforts, Amazing Athletes will participate by running, biking and swimming alongside him in as many cities as possible to help spread the message about the importance of establishing a lifestyle of healthy habits and to raise awareness about childhood obesity in the U.S. today.

Who is the Iron Cowboy?

James Lawrence is an athlete, a husband, and a proud father of four daughters and a son. He competes in endurance races and Ironman Triathlons, and he currently holds two world records in 70.3 and 140.6 triathlon racing. In 2012, Lawrence dominated the 2012 World Record, completing 30 races in 11 countries and smashing the previous World Record by 10 races, winning two titles and placing second in five others. On June 6, 2015, the Iron Cowboy will push his limits even further by attempting to complete 50 Ironman courses in 50 consecutive days throughout all 50 states in his upcoming 50-50-50 challenge. And this time, he wants to inspire the nation to join him.

“It’s what I do with my kids. I try to set the best example I know how, and for me the best example I can set is to go do 50 full distance triathlons in 50 days – one in every single state,” he said. “We’re looking for likeminded brands and corporations to join us. Come swim a lap with me; come swim 10 laps with me; come bike a 5K with me; come bike 100 miles with me; come run 3 miles with me; come run the entire marathon with me. Just come out and do something active with me.”

Why the 50-50-50 Challenge?
Lawrence, the father of five young elementary school children, said he was inspired to embark on this 50-50-50 challenge is to raise awareness about childhood obesity, motivate others to make healthy lifestyle choices, and set the best example he can for his kids.

“It’s for my children. Everything I do, I do for them. I try to set examples for them. I try to set big goals and accomplish them,” he said. “I want to be around for them as long as I can, and this is my motivation to get up and do those things.”

In addition to showcasing the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to his own kids, he also hopes to spread the message to children and families everywhere about the importance of making lifestyle changes that emphasize fitness, activity, and healthy habits as a family.

“There is a massive epidemic in this country. We’re obese, and it’s a problem. We need to make some serious changes in our lives,” he said. “We need to change the way we eat, we need to change our activity levels, and we need to change our lifestyles.”

How is Amazing Athletes Getting Involved?

To support his efforts, Amazing Athletes owners, parents and supporters across the U.S. are joining the Iron Cowboy in helping spread this powerful message by running, biking or swimming alongside him during his race across the nation. Whether just for one mile, 10 miles or 100, Amazing Athletes encourages everyone to come join us and get active in support of our aligned missions to promote healthy habits and put an end to childhood obesity once and for all.

“Change is hard. It’s really hard, but hard things come with incredible rewards,” Lawrence said. “I have high hopes that people will just be inspired and want to make a change.”
